Hungarian adventures

Just returned from 10 days in the old Carpathian basin, the first time I have been in Spring. It was eye-opening.

Front Garden Frog

It was such a cutie, I thought I’d show you the frog we found whilst weeding the front garden on Sunday. Photo courtesy of the missus.

Corfu stuff.

A week at Roda on the north coast of Corfu was kibbie holidays for us kibbies. Here’s what we saw.

Ellerburn fauna

Again, where to start? Moths!

Day out in Dalby Forest: bee and fly orchids and strange rocks.

June’s too good to stay at home. So we went out. My goal was butterflies and orchids. I drew mostly blanks with the butterflies; the weather wasn’t very cooperative, but the orchids were FANTASTIC.

Wierd weekend.

This weekend four interesting observations to report.

Glimpses of Hungary

Just had a brief sojourn in Hungary, and not entirely dry either. Here are a few snaps from Szeged.

Ellerburn Bank

We spend most of the field course at Ellerburn Bank, which is exactly my idea of  paradise.

Sir Isaac Newton (but not Mr Alderman Ptolemy Tortoise).

Took the kids newting down the cycle path past Naburn, where there’s a ditch-like pond full of reedmace. In it, lots of frogspawn in process of hatching and we spotted eight smooth newts. I am glad to say that the old skills didn’t let me down.
