Since we’ve been under cloud and rain for almost an entire week, there’s been no opportunity to stargaze (very frustrating given what’s supposed to be visible at present), and well no wildlife either. But I took the opportunity to snap this sky feature last week: a rare double rainbow.

The second bow is best seen in the first picture and is outside the main, brighter bow.

I can’t resist alluding to Richard Dawkin’s book, Unweaving the rainbow, which I’m currently re-reading. The bow is caused by the prismatic effect of sunlight passing through thousands of tiny water droplets. Does this science destroy the magnificence of the sight? I don’t think so. It makes you appreciate all the more how lucky we are to see such things.
